Being the Tooth Fairy

Sunday went like most Sundays do...we got up, ate breakfast, went to church, made Sunday lunch, and began quiet time. Navie was watching a princess Dora movie from the library and Jason and I were resting in bed. Imagine our surprise when Navie comes running into our room and says "You gotta see this!" I'm thinking what on Earth could she possibly have to show us right now, this better be good. And Holy Cow did she show me? Her very first, little baby tooth was full on wiggling...no doubt about it. Although this was incredibly exciting, I had this like freak-out moment, where I thought, this can't be happening, she is much too young. I don't want her to grow up. Then I was panicked because I didn't know how to be the tooth fairy. Of course now that it's over, there is really nothing to it but Navie really knocked me off my rocker on Sunday.
On Wednesday, Dad came home early from school and took Navie to the pool. As they walked out the door, I handed Navie her water-bottle (hydration is very important to me). After about 45 minutes, I hear their flip-flops coming up the stairs and then I hear Navie, "Mom, my tooth came out!" Sure enough, she walks over and staring me right in the face is the little hole in her mouth to prove it. Again I was shocked, the tooth hadn't really seemed to loosen much since Sunday, so I was basking in the idea that she was allowing me a few more days to wrap my head around this.
What caused the tooth to fall out you ask, her water bottle. If only I had decided not to give it to her we'd be sitting here today with a little girl sporting a "loose" tooth and not a "missing" tooth. But even though I felt like my world had been turned upside down, Navie was thrilled and really so was I. The tooth popped out quick and easy and she caught it right in her hand. There was no trauma associated with it. Just what we needed for her first lost tooth experience. Now I get to see that adorable little smile with a little hole. I rather like it.
She took her tooth to school the next day to show all her friends and then Thursday night she was ready for her first visit from the tooth fairy.
She's holding her eyes open because she kept closing them in all the previous pics. Although the experience began as a moment feeling like someone had dumped one of those giant coolers of cold water on my head, it was a great experience for everyone! Our baby girl lost her first tooth!

  2. Sorry. I had a typo up there. I cannot tell you how many times growing up the tooth fairy borrowed money from me to pay for my siblings' teeth. I love her gapped smile!
